Interesting

Below is a post to the forum from one of my colleagues.  This was very interesting to me in regards to this concept of being "data rich and information poor."

"Kathleen McCormick in her 4th edition 2006 Essentials of Nursing Informatics by Saba and McCormick identifies that the average nurse on an NIH service area assigned to eight patients in 1994 collected over 50,000 data points per patient.  She predicts that is much higher today.  We collect enormous amounts of data with little to no meaning.  We do not establish the relationship of that data to the variables associated with the patient.  We do not critically think about the use of this data to move the patient along the healthcare continuum to a state of achieved health for that patient.   We collect unnecessary data and we do not act on the data we collect many times."
